New Delhi: It was confirmed that Rahul Gandhi didn't want to lead Congress's opposition to Narendra Modi in Parliament when the party leadership on Monday named Mallikarjuna Kharge - a senior Dalit leader from Karnataka but a political lightweight - as leader of the party in the Lok Sabha instead of Rahul.
The Gandhi scion's disinclination to lead from the front didn't come as a surprise as some other names - including Kamal Nath and Veerappa Moily - had already been floated as possible choices for the post. In reaction, veteran leader Digvijaya Singh had said that if Rahul wanted to lead the Congress, he should lead it in the Lok Sabha...
