Girl Kids

****************************************************************************************************************

Girl kids are so different than boy kids.

A much-loved English teacher told me that her 10-year-old sweet daughter was found sobbing quietly while reading a Saratchandra novel.

Little Ishani surprised all of us this morning and she is just 4.

Nine days ago her parents brought a Ganesh idol home for our family puja. The second day she took possession of her Ganeshji and was guarding it and enfolding it once in a while in her tight embrace.

This morning her parents asked her to hand her idol over for immersion.

She refused point blank.

And her parents tried to explain to her all about the immersion ceremony and its significance. To little avail.

Finally they teased her Ganeshji out of her grasp and took it away.

And we found her sobbing and crying with tears in her eyes for more than an hour.

And her dad and I had to fetch another unbreakable Ganesh idol from the Gifts & Novelties shop.

And then she got reconciled somewhat.

I can understand her well.

Every Durga Puja at KGP I was visiting the pandal morning and evening sitting brooding and watching the bare idol getting by the day adorned and garlanded and beautified in her own way.

Till the evening of the Dashami when I went over to the lake to watch the immersion ceremony.

After which for about a couple of days I was forlorn.

Seems there is a girl kid in all of us adults...
